The tax is calculated based on 20% of the fair market value of real and personal property and the average annual value of merchants' stocks and/or manufacturers' inventories based on millage rates in individual school districts. Business firms and individuals are subject to annual property tax on all real and personal property. Millage rates can vary according to several factors including school districts within the city.
Example: $100,000 value X 20% = $20,000
$20,000 multiplied by the milleage of 40.5 (.0405) equals $810.00 per year. Sales Tax
SALES TAX
Currently the sales tax in Searcy is 8.0%. Of that amount 6.0% is a state sales tax, .5% is a city sales tax and 1.5% is a county sales tax. In March, there will be an .5% increase in the city sales tax that will sunset after 18 months.
