The UniversityHarding is a Christian, private, residential, four-year liberal arts university. Founded in 1924 when two junior colleges merged their facilities and formed a senior college, Harding achieved university status in 1979. Spiritual LifeDaily chapel, Bible classes, foreign and stateside mission campaigns, service projects and other activities are designed to enrich our students' spiritual lives as they enrich the lives of others. The CampusThe Harding campus occupies 200 acres near the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in Searcy, AR, a city of 16,000 people. Harding's 46 buildings include 11 modern classroom buildings, a 400,000 volume automated library, a fully equipped athletic center, the state's largest auditorium, five men's and five women's residence halls, and apartments for married students. Our StudentsHarding is the largest private university in Arkansas, with over 4,000 students enrolled from all 50 U.S. states and nearly 40 foreign countries. Our FacultyMore than 200 Christian men and women comprise Harding's faculty, and 70 percent hold terminal degrees. The student/faculty ratio is 18:1. Academic ProgramsStudents choose from eight undergraduate and five graduate degrees in five divisions: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Bible and Religion, the School of Business, the School of Education and the School of Nursing. Harding offers degree programs in nearly 80 majors. Branch CampusesHarding maintains semester-long overseas campus programs in Florence, Italy; Athens, Greece; and London, England. It also operates Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis, Tenn., which grants master's and doctoral degrees in biblical studies and operates the largest biblical/theological library among schools and graduate programs affiliated with Churches of Christ. A member of the NCAA Division II, Harding offers intercollegiate football, cross country, basketball, track, tennis, golf and baseball for men, as well as cross country, volleyball, track, tennis and basketball for women. Most students participate in social club or school-wide intramural athletics. Student ActivitiesMore than 50 social, musical, religious and academic clubs and organizations are available to students, including involvement with the on-campus radio and cable television stations, the yearbook, and the weekly student newspaper. Major campus events include the Student Impact student orientation program, the annual Bible Lectureship, Homecoming Weekend, and the popular Youth Forum/Spring Sing Weekend, which brings thousands of young people to campus each year. American Studies InstituteDeveloped to train students for leadership careers in business, public life and education, the task of the American Studies Institute is undertaken through formal training, observation tours, special seminars with staff members of the University, and lectures by leaders in industry, business, education and government. Financial AidEighty percent of Harding's students benefit from more than $20 million in financial aid each year through scholarships, work-study, loans and government grants. AccreditationHarding and its programs are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Association of Collegiate Business School Programs, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Council on Social Work Education, the National League for Nursing, and the National Association of Schools of Music.
