Personal SafetyStudies indicate that older American's are more concerned with crime than any other segment of our population. When older adults do not feel safe in a community, they tend to become prisoners of their own homes, afraid to walk the streets of their own neighborhood. The Searcy Police Department in one of the finest in the State. They currently employ forty-four (44) officers, including the Central Arkansas Drug Task Force officers. The department is better equipped than most other Departments their size per capita, and are staffed at a rate closer to the national average. Several patrol cars are equipped with Computer-Aided Dispatch System (CAD). The CAD is a revolutionary way to police, and the Searcy Police Department is the area's leading police agency in this field. The CAD boost response time and helps solve crimes. In anticipation of the growth of our community and it's surrounding area, the department will be requesting up to ten (10) new officers for new positions over the next 3 years. For the past 2 1/2 years the Searcy Police Department has acted as a satellite-training center for the Criminal Justice Institute in Little Rock, Arkansas. The "state of the art" training room that the Searcy Police Department houses helps us to be able to support and adequately hold classes of up to forty (40) students. Also, to help in our endeavor to provide the best police service, the Searcy Police Department has sent and graduated five (5) of our officers from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. There is no other police department in the state of Arkansas, per capita, with more FBI National Academy graduates employed. Finally, the character of Searcy has always been that of a stable community, and we feel that this is essential to our police officers. Our officers sense this stability, and it is evident in their work ethic and performance in the job field. The department is extremely active in the community with programs such as: Partners in Education, Lunch with 2nd graders, public drug education, Angel Ride, Coats for Kids, Career Day, Job Shadow, and Cop for a Day programs. The Department fully supports local charities and helps in any way they can, and in any way possible. In conclusion, the Searcy Police Department is proud to say that our local community has had the lowest crime rate in the area for the last eight (8) years. In 1999, the solve rates of crimes committed in Searcy was 43%, this is up 10% from the national average and above all other area departments. To show that our community is a great place with great people, 80% of the people who are arrested in Searcy aren't even from our community.
