Greers Ferry Lake
Greers Ferry Lake is a popular spot for getting away from
it all for people from all over central Arkansas and the United States. Attracting
over 5,000,000 visitors each year, its over 300 miles of shoreline and 40,000 acres
are the perfect environment for fun and relaxation. Lakeside facilities meet every
visitor's needs, from rough campsites to luxurious resorts and restaurants, from
hiking trails to championship golf courses.
Fishing
Greers Ferry Lake is a deep, clear lake home to native and imported game fish, including:
- Largemouth Bass
- Smallmouth Bass
- Spotted Bass
- White and Hybrid Striped Bass
- Walleye
- Crappie
- Bream
The lake is the home of the World Walleye Classic and attracts hundreds of expert
Walleye anglers every year. The state record Walleye was taken from Greers Ferry Lake
and weighed over 22 pounds - just short of the world record. Large Walleye aren't the
only large gamefish to come from the lake, ten-pound bass aren't uncommon and Largemouth
have been caught that weighed over fifteen pounds. To help visitors find the big ones,
there are guide services and boat rentals available.
Water Sports
Greers Ferry Lake is a big wideopen playground for those who like to catch the wind, to
feel themselves skim lightly over the surface of the clear water, or to cool off by swimming
lazily out from a sandy beach. The lake is split into two large sections connected by a three
and a half-mile stretch called the narrows. The wideopen nature of the lake is ideal for
waterskiing, day-sailing, and water toys. The depth of the lake allows larger craft to
cruise with comfort, and its clarity makes SCUBA diving an adventure of discovery. The party
barge set will enjoy the three hundred miles of tree lined shoreline with ample coves and inlets for water-based
sight-seeing. With nine full-service marinas, launching, fueling, and stocking up for a day's adventure is
convenient and quick. Boat rentals are available.
